Mobility and the power to move freely have always been the core of assistive technologies for People of Determination and the Elderly. The past has shown us how various inventions, such as the wheelchair, were made to establish a foundation, and the present shows us how firms are racing towards engineering the next best innovative devices. But what does the future look like?
Interconnected devices – Current technology has reached the level where it allows us to perform tasks with a press of a button or using voice command. An example is our smart power wheelchair which can be operated using a remote control or smartphone. Observing current researches, we can safely predict that in the future, companies like Neuralink and Synchron might bring technology wherein People of Determination will be able to operate daily tasks using just their minds.
Self-driving cars – Nowadays, People of Determination have to commute in their cars either by driving using assisted hand/foot controls or with the help of a driver. In the near future, self-driving cars would be able to help them go wherever they want without the need to press a pedal.
Exoskeletons and robotics – Exoskeletons are suits designed to give those with weakness and limited movement the chance to walk with renewed strength. These suits are mostly lower body suits that reinforce the hips, knees, and ankles of the wearer.
The above are a few examples of what the future of mobility for People of Determination and the Elderly could look like. We as Ability Life Group are honoured to have created a gateway more than 15 years ago through which the community, governmental organizations and corporates have access to the latest and greatest technologies, and we look forward to bring more advanced and innovative solutions in the future.
