The Government of Dubai Legal Affairs Department has been established in 2008; it is one of the Departments attached to H.H. the Ruler’s Court. The most important functions of the Department are to receive complaints and claims filed against Government entities, to seek to settle those claims and complaints amicably, to represent the Government and Government entities in claims filed by or against them before competent judicial bodies and conciliation and arbitration centres, to license advocacy and legal consultancy firms, to monitor their work, to oversee legal consultants qualification, to draft and review contracts and agreements where Government or Government entities are party upon their request, to represent the Government or Government entities in the relevant negotiations and to review articles of association of organisations and companies established by the Government, Government entities or where the Government or Government entities are party.
