Dubai Police unveils innovative solutions for People of Determination at AccessAbilities Expo

H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of Dubai Airports and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, visited the Dubai Police stand at the 6th AccessAbilities Expo, showcasing innovative solutions for people of determination.

AccessAbilities Expo 2024, held at the Dubai World Trade Centre until Wednesday, aims to highlight the latest services and technologies available for people of determination.

Major Abdullah Hamad Al Shamsi, Chairperson of the Dubai Police People of Determination Empowerment Council, reaffirmed the council’s commitment to participating annually in this significant exhibition aimed at empowering people of determination and promoting their integration into society. He stated, “Our council’s policies align with Dubai Police’s initiatives for people of determination, supporting the National Policy for Empowering People of Determination and the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033.”

Maj. Al Shamsi added that over the Expo’s three days, Dubai Police will host “Heroes’ Talk,” featuring inspiring achievements from the people of determination community.

Captain Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Police People of Determination Empowerment Council, explained that the stand features a specially designed shooting wheelchair for individuals with double amputations, enabling them to compete in shooting events. He stated, “We are proud of Aisha’s qualification for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.”

First Warrant Officer Mohammed Hussein, involved in the wheelchair’s development, described it as a battery-powered mobile chair that enables participation in local and international Paralympic shooting competitions. The wheelchair includes a height-adjustable rifle holder and is designed for easy transport.

Aisha Al Shamsi, an Emirati athlete and member of the Dubai Club for People of Determination, has achieved remarkable success in shooting despite her challenges. She has earned multiple medals and qualified for the Paris 2024 Paralympics.

Additionally, Dubai Police presented the “Sensory Room,” designed for individuals with autism, using virtual reality glasses to enhance social interaction and communication skills. Two sensory rooms have been established at Al Muraqqabat and Al Barsha police stations.

The Dubai Autism Centre awarded Dubai Police the Autism-Friendly Certificate, recognising their commitment to supporting individuals with autism through trained personnel and facilities.
