The Parent Empowerment Program (PEP) at the Al Noor Training Centre for Persons with Disabilities has been an annual event for parents of newly enrolled students for more than a decade, with the goal of providing parents with opportunities to improve their wellbeing and social functioning as individuals and as parents of children with disabilities. Over the years PEP has moved beyond capability training to building parents’ resilience in the face of the daily challenges of caring for, training, and raising their children with disabilities.
The Parent Empowerment Program with the theme, “The Journey of Finding Yourself” was successfully conducted and was attended by 19 parents of newly enrolled students for the academic year 2023-2024.
The entire session was centred upon the concepts of empathy and self-compassion, and how to use them in daily life. Participants were encouraged to express a range of emotions related to their personal and parental experiences. This was facilitated by Ms. Tanuka Gupta, our Senior Clinical Psychologist who served as the main speaker.
