Community Development Authority Organises Inclusive Participation in “Mallathon: Walk for Better Health”
The Community Development Authority (CDA) in Dubai organised a community participation initiative at the “Mallathon: Walk for Better Health” event, held at Mirdif City Centre. The event brought together individuals recovering from addiction and their families, senior citizens, People of Determination, and CDA employees, reaffirming the Authority’s commitment to integrating all segments of society into health and community activities. This initiative forms part of the CDA’s ongoing efforts to enhance quality of life and promote the concepts of health and community well-being.
The participation aligns with the Authority’s commitment to creating supportive community environments that encourage people from all backgrounds to engage in physical activity, strengthen social cohesion, and foster a culture of prevention and wellness. These efforts are in line with the objectives of the Dubai Social Agenda 33, which aims to build a more cohesive and inclusive society.
The event featured an engaging and interactive atmosphere that brought together individuals recovering from addiction and their families, People of Determination and their families, as well as specialists and caregivers from rehabilitation centres. The experience strengthened communication among different community groups and highlighted the importance of collaborative initiatives in reinforcing the values of belonging while encouraging individuals to adopt a more active and balanced lifestyle.
Mohannad Saeed, Director of the Senior Citizens Department at the Community Development Authority in Dubai, stated that encouraging senior citizens to participate in community and sports events promotes the concept of active ageing, supports their physical and mental well-being, and provides greater opportunities to connect with different segments of society, enhancing their sense of belonging and enriching their role within the community.
Dr. Sheikha Al Mansoori, Acting Director of the People of Determination Department at the Community Development Authority in Dubai, said:
“The inclusion of People of Determination in events such as these reflects the Authority’s commitment to fostering an inclusive society where everyone has equal opportunities to participate.”
Dr. Halima Mohammed Al Blooshi, Director of Aounak Social Rehabilitation Centre, affiliated with the Community Development Authority in Dubai, added:
“Recovery is a continuous journey that requires a comprehensive support system, beginning with the individual and extending well beyond the completion of the treatment programme to include both the family and the wider community. With this in mind, Aounak Centre is committed to providing aftercare programmes that support the successful reintegration of individuals in recovery into society.”
