Dubai has once again taken the lead in championing accessibility and inclusion by being officially confirmed as the host city for the 5th Asian Youth Para Games (AYPG), set to take place from December 7 to 14, 2025. Following the withdrawal of Tashkent, Dubai has stepped up to welcome the continent’s most promising young para-athletes. This significant sporting event reinforces the Emirate’s growing legacy as a global hub for inclusive sports and accessibility-driven initiatives.

Building on a Proud Legacy

This is not Dubai’s first time hosting the Asian Youth Para Games. The city also hosted the 2017 edition, and its selection for 2025 comes as no surprise. Dubai has consistently proven its capability to organize international disability sports events, such as the FAZZA Para Championships and multiple World Para Athletics events. The emirate’s continued investment in accessible infrastructure, adaptive sports training, assistive technology, and community engagement makes it a natural choice for this prestigious event.

Hosting the 2025 Asian Youth Para Games is more than just a sporting commitment — it is a reaffirmation of the UAE’s long-standing vision to support and empower People of Determination through action, opportunity, and world-class platforms.

Largest Edition Yet: A New Benchmark

The 2025 edition of the AYPG will be the largest in the event’s history, expecting to host approximately 1,350 athletes from 30–40 countries. These young athletes will compete across 10 para-sports, including:

  • Athletics
  • Swimming
  • Powerlifting
  • Wheelchair Basketball
  • Boccia
  • Badminton
  • Table Tennis
  • Goalball
  • Judo
  • Archery

The Dubai Club for People of Determination, a recognized center of excellence for adaptive sports in the Middle East, will serve as the primary venue for six of these competitions.

Advancing the Paralympic Movement in Asia

The Asian Youth Para Games play a crucial role in nurturing the next generation of Paralympic athletes. More than just medals, the event offers a vital opportunity for participants to receive international classification, refine their athletic skills, and gain visibility in the global para-sport arena.

According to the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC), the Games are key to strengthening regional unity and promoting social inclusion through sports. By hosting the event, Dubai is not just enabling elite competition but also contributing to a broader cultural shift — where ability is celebrated, and diversity is embraced.

A Model for Accessibility and Inclusion

Dubai’s selection as the host city once again highlights its world-renowned commitment to accessibility, inclusive development, and innovation. From transportation networks and venues designed with universal design principles to policies that actively support the empowerment of People of Determination, Dubai continues to lead by example.

The city’s readiness to host over a thousand athletes and delegations also reflects the strength of its event infrastructure — from adaptive accommodations to multi-lingual volunteer support and medical services tailored to accessibility needs.

These qualities are in perfect alignment with the mission of the AccessAbilities Expo, the Middle East’s largest event dedicated to empowering People of Determination. The upcoming Expo in October 2025 at the Dubai World Trade Centre will serve as an ideal prelude to the AYPG, showcasing assistive technologies, inclusive design, policy dialogues, and innovations across disability sectors.
